“The Sun” / ”

“The Sun”

The dawn breaks, and you arrive,
Or does Mommy send you out to thrive?
From the east, you set forth to roam,
On prismatic horses, with a gallant stride.
You plunge the world into its toils,
Does your own home fall into turmoil?
The one who wakes the world for ages long,
What must be the state of your own home’s song?
The dawn breaks, and you arrive,
Or does Mommy send you out to thrive?

Evening falls, and darkness gathers round,
Tell me, whose trick is this profound?
Does evening sob, or does the day weep,
Whom to ask, whose state to seek?
Have you no home, no kin, no tie,
That you race through days and nights, my friend?
A wandering sage, you drift and roam,
Is there more to you, or a watchman’s end?
The dawn breaks, and you arrive,
Or does Mommy send you out to thrive?

What wayfarer are you on what strange road,
Wandering, friend, with no destined abode?
A pull stirs within my heart’s core,
If we met, I’d ask you just once more:
Why come you when the dawn does break,
Or are you from your home cast away?
Why not stride from the western gate,
Why on horses do you ride in state?
The dawn breaks, and you arrive,
Or does Mommy send you out to thrive?

Why not let the world in slumber lie,
Why be the foe of the world, my friend, why?
What’s this cycle of day and night,
Some feud, some bond, some hidden rite?
The dawn breaks, and you arrive,
Or does Mommy send you out to thrive?

Loved the personification of the Sun in the poem and the narratives around it. Fueled our imaginations too.
    Beautiful M.K.Singh Sir
